SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team erupted for three goals in the second period and went on to a 4-1 SUNYAC win over Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon. The win is Skidmore's fourth in a row.
- Skidmore (11-9-2, 8-6-1 SUNYAC) broke through at 3:34 of the second period when Coleman Jenkins scored on a 2-on-0 from Shane Baker and Sam Saccone to make it 1-0.
- Baker had three points on the night. After assisting on the first goal, he scored both the second and third goals that gave the Thoroughbreds a 3-0 lead.
- Baker doubled the Skidmore lead at 14:22 of the second with assists from Ryan Stratton and Jacob Zwirecki on a tight tic-tac-toe passing play, then added an unassisted goal with 4.9 seconds left in the period when he stripped a Bengal of the puck and patiently navigated to the crease to finish the superb individual effort play.
- Tyler Fogu made it 4-0 early in the third, scoring on a tap in while wide open at the back post at 3:59 off assists from Dylan Shane and Zwirecki.
- Buffalo State (8-12-1, 5-8-1) got on the board at 16:07 of the third on an unassisted goal by Chris Blango.
- Tommy Aitken earned the win with 21 saves. He is 6-3-2 on the year.
- Buffalo State's Ben Dardis made 32 saves as Skidmore ended with a 36-22 shot advantage.
- Skidmore also held a 42-30 edge in faceoffs, led by Fogu (13-3) and Oscar Worob (12-9).
- Neither team converted on the power play, with Skidmore finishing 0-for-3 and Buffalo State 0-for-8. Aitken made 10 saves across the eight successful Skidmore penalty kills.
- Skidmore and Buffalo State split the season series, both holding serve at home. The Thoroughbreds are in fourth place with three games remaining at 18 points. Buffalo State is tied with Canton for sixth with 12 points, but has four games remaining.
