SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – It was a collegiate debut to remember for first-year
Piper Morgan, who tied the program's single-game record with nine goals to lead the Skidmore College women's lacrosse team to a commanding 16-7 victory over Smith College in the season and home opener at Wachenheim Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds (1-0) controlled the game with a 40-18 advantage in shots, a 15-12 edge in draws, and by forcing 24 turnovers from the Bears (0-1), who were outscored singlehandedly by Morgan's nine goals. Her total tied the program single-game record previously set by Lloyd Falconer (1993 vs. Wells) and Lindsay Stavola (2011 vs. Clarkson).
Earning the win in her first collegiate start in goal, sophomore
Tatum Walsh recorded seven saves.
