CANTON, N.Y. – First-year
Ryan Stratton scored his third goal of the game at the 2:02 mark of overtime to lead the Skidmore College men's hockey team to a 4-3 road victory over Canton on Friday night.
- The victory gives Skidmore its sixth win in a row. Three of them have been in overtime. Skidmore is 13-9-2 overall and 10-6-1 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) for 22 points.
- The Thoroughbreds can finish no worse than fourth and will host a SUNYAC Quarterfinal game next Wednesday, Feb. 25. Skidmore will be third with a win Saturday at Potsdam.
- Canton is 11-12-1 and 7-9-1 for 17 points. The Kangaroos need a win over Plattsburgh Saturday to earn the No. 5 seed.
- Five goals were scored in an action-packed opening period. Skidmore led 3-1 near the end of the opening 20, but the hosts cut the deficit to one with 10.8 seconds left in the period.
- No more goals were scored for the next 38 minutes of play before Canton tied it with 1:52 remaining in regulation.
- Stratton's third from Coleman Jenkins and Dylan Shane clinched Skidmore's season split with Canton and the guaranteed home playoff game.
- Jenkins assisted on all four Skidmore goals. He is now tied for the team lead with 12 helpers.
- Cooper Rice scored the other Skidmore goal.
- Oscar Worob assisted twice. Shane Baker and Shane both had one helper.
- Stratton and Rice gave the Thoroughbreds a quick 2-0 lead six minutes in. Rice's tally was on the power play.
- Colton Alexander trimmed the deficit in half at 16:39, before Stratton popped his second from Jenkins and Worob with 16.9 seconds left in the period.
- Brayden Fryfogle scored Canton's second goal six seconds later.
- Logan Kelly scored Canton's tying goal late in the third with an extra attacker.
- Skidmore finished with a 47-24 advantage in shots. The Thoroughbreds were unable to pad the lead in the second despite a 15-3 shot disparity.
- Tommy Aitken turned aside 21 shots to improve to 8-3-2 for Skidmore.
- Trey Miller had 43 stops for Canton.
- The Thoroughbreds benefited from staying out of the penalty box, though the Kangaroos scored on their only power play in addition to the extra-man chance.
- Skidmore went 1-for-4 on the power play.

Skidmore will complete its regular season Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Potsdam. The Thoroughbreds will play either Canton or Plattsburgh in the quarterfinals depending on Saturday's outcomes.
