Skidmore beats Cortland, 5-4, in final seconds of OT

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Bryan Tang scored with 31.1 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Skidmore College men's hockey team to a 5-4 win at Cortland on Saturday evening.
  • Tang's fourth goal of the weekend capped a wild back-and-forth game, in which Skidmore erased a two-goal deficit before taking the lead with three second-period goals. Cortland then scored tying goals with 6:46 remaining and then again with 16.3 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
  • Oscar Worob broke the 3-3 tie for Skidmore (9-9-2, 6-6-1 SUNYAC) with a go-ahead marker just past the 15-minute mark of the third before the Red Dragons scored with an extra attacker to force overtime.
  • Tang prevented the teams from tying for the second time this season with his winning goal on a drive to the net in overtime.
  • Tang finished with a goal and an assist, as did Jacob Zwirecki. Dylan Shane had a goal and two assists to match Coleman Jenkins, who assisted three times, for the game-high point total.
  • Worob and Bryce Terry had the other Thoroughbred goals.
  • Cortland (9-10-1, 6-6-1) connected on the power play with 6:33 remaining in the opening period and doubled the lead 2:35 later.
  • Terry scored from Tyler Fogu and Tang at the 3:15 mark of the second to cut the deficit in half, and Shane tied it just over three minutes later.
  • Zwirecki put an exclamation point on Skidmore's dominant second period with a power-play tally with 2:48 left.
  • Both teams scored twice on the power play. Skidmore was 2-for-5, while Cortland finished 2-for-6.
  • Four different players found the back of the net for the hosts. Alex Zakrzewski and Nathan Garnier each contributed a goal and an assist.
  • Tommy Aitken matched his career high with 38 saves, including 14 stops on Cortland power plays, for his fifth win of the year.
  • Shane Shelest turned aside 29 shots for Cortland.
  • Cortland had a 42-34 edge in shots on goal.
