Game Recap: Softball |

Nachamie hits grand slam on Senior Day, Finch homers twice, and Swain walks off game one in Skidmore split vs. SLU

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – First-year Delaney Swain hit a bases-clearing, walk off double to give the Thoroughbreds a 7-6 game-one victory as the Skidmore College softball team split with visiting St. Lawrence. Senior Jessica Nachamie hit a grand slam on Senior Day in game two, and Sophia Finch went deep twice as the Saints claimed game two to salvage the split.
  • Nachamie, Skidmore's lone senior, threw out the ceremonial first pitch before game one to her father and was honored in a postgame ceremony.

  • Swain ripped the first pitch she saw with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to win it for Skidmore. The liner went over the right fielder's head and took a big bounce off the wall allowing Finch, the winning run, to score all the way from first.
  • The walk off capped a big comeback for the Thoroughbreds. St. Lawrence scored five times in the top of the first inning and later stretched its lead to 6-1.
  • Skidmore stayed alive with a pair of runs in the third inning and one in the sixth to close the gap to two.
  • Erin Gibbons singled to lead off Skidmore's seventh inning and moved to second when Rachel Monser walked. After the first out was recorded, Finch hit a pinch hit single up the middle to set the stage for Swain.
  • Swain finished the game 3-for-4. Sam Waters and Elle Harrison were both also 3-for-4 at the top of the lineup, both with two stolen bases. Waters also hit a triple.
  • Erin Gibbons had two hits and drove in three runs after not being in the original lineup.
  • Mallory Allen retired the final 14 SLU hitters in a row as she surrendered just one run on three hits after the first inning to earn her seventh win of the year. She also hit a double. She surrendered three earned runs on seven hits for the game with two walks and two strikeouts.
  • Leah Verschneider had two hits, including a double, and two RBI for the Saints.

St. Lawrence 21, Skidmore 8
  • The visitors again pounced in the first inning, scoring six runs, and lead by as many as 10 before Skidmore cut the gap in half with a five-run fourth.
  • St. Lawrence closed it out with a run in the sixth and eight in the seventh.
  • Nachamie's grand slam in the fourth made it 12-6 and Finch homered on the next pitch. She went deep again, also on the first pitch, in the sixth. They were the first homers of her season.
  • Rachel Monser and Cortney Somsky were both 3-for-4 for Skidmore (11-21, 3-9 Liberty League).
  • Allen added two more hits.
  • SLU (17-13, 5-7 Liberty League) pitcher Marleigh Monroe did it on both sides. At the plate she was 4-for-5 with four RBI and a double.
  • Marina Juan hit a homer as she finished 3-for-5 with three driven in and three runs scored.
  • Juan, Verschneider, and Maeve Thompson all finished with three hits for the visitors.
  • Monroe went the distance on 129 pitches allowing three earned runs with seven strikeouts.
