No. 41 Thoroughbreds clinch playoff spot with win at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team defeated Ithaca College on the road on Saturday, 5-2. The win clinches Skidmore's spot in next weekend's Liberty League Championship at Cornell.
  • Skidmore (9-8, 4-3 Liberty League), ranked 41st nationally, is in a tie for fifth place with Ithaca (6-8, 4-3 Liberty League), but can be as high as a tie for second with a win on Sunday in a scenario that would create a five-way tie for second. The six teams are set and tomorrow's regular-season closing matches will determine final seeding.
  • Fletcher King and Nika Mori broke a 1-1 tie in doubles with a 7-5 triumph over Fidler/Desai to give the Thoroughbreds the double point.
  • Ithaca got the day's first match at No. 3, but Griffin Biernat and Yuval Goodman tied it up minutes later with a 6-3, victory over Kisis/Reddy in the top pairing.
  • Kyle Lundberg made it 2-0 with a straight-set win (6-4, 6-0) at fifth singles.
  • The Bombers got one back at No. 3 before Goodman, Adel Aissaoui, and Biernat won in order to clinch Skidmore's victory.
  • Goodman worked a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1, Aissaoui won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6, and Biernat clinched it with a three-set (3-6, 6-1, 6-3) in the second match.
