Thoroughbreds top visiting MCLA, 10-4

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team used a balanced offensive effort and a key home run from Eddie Galvao to defeat MCLA, 10–4, in a non-league matchup Wednesday at Castle Diamond.
  • The Thoroughbreds improved to 18-12-2 on the season, while MCLA dropped to 5-23.
  • Skidmore scored in five different innings, including a four-run sixth that broke the game open.
  • Eddie Galvao went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. His three-run homer in the sixth broke open a tight Skidmore lead. It was Skidmore's only extra-base hit of the day.
  • Trey Bourque reached base four times, going 1-for-2 with a walk, two hit-by-pitches, an RBI, and a run scored.
  • Nate Vandersea finished 3-for-5 as well with two runs scored.
  • Zachary Leiderman contributed with a hit, a hit-by-pitch, and two runs scored.
  • Nick Palovich started on the mound and struck out three over two scoreless innings. Carter Klein worked a 1-2-3 fourth inning with two strikeouts.
  • Peter Martin and Grayden Harris both struck out three as Skidmore used seven arms to get through the Trailblazers. Alex Tavano and Tyler Holm also pitched scoreless frames.
  • Holm had a strikeout in his perfect top of the ninth to close it out.
  • The Thoroughbreds plated two runs in the third inning on a combination of a walk, two hit batters, and a costly wild pitch.
  • Skidmore then made it 3-0 in the fifth on three walks and an Owen Roy HBP with the bases loaded.
  • MCLA tied it in the top of the sixth with three highlighted by a Chris Vargas two-run home run to center field.
  • The Thoroughbreds got the lead right back in the bottom of the sixth. Vandersea singled, went to second on a Tyler Chenevert sacrifice bunt, and scored on Bourque's line-drive single to left. Then, after Leiderman singled, Galvao lifted his fourth long ball of the year to make it 7-3.
  • Holden Caney had two RBI down the stretch and helped score the 10th run despite getting picked off intentionally at first base.
  • The Thoroughbreds outhit MCLA, 10–7, and drew six walks while being hit by six pitches.
