Thoroughbreds battle with Rochester in both ends of doubleheader

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Skidmore College softball team was a challenge for league-leading University of Rochester on Saturday in a pair of Liberty League road contests. The Yellowjackets won 6-4 and 8-3.

Rochester 6, Skidmore 4
  • First-year Sam Waters pulled the Thoroughbreds to within a run in the top of the fifth inning with her first collegiate home run — a two-run shot.
  • Madison Bonham and Sophia Finch each added RBI with hits in the second and fourth innings, respectively, while Natalie Mayne tallied two hits and scored a run.
  • Rochester scored four times in the first fueled by a Jenna Gorecki three-run home run.
  • The hosts also had single runs in the fourth and sixth.
  • Lauren Keys earned the win in the circle for the Yellowjackets, allowing four runs on seven hits without a walk or strikeout on her ledger.
  • On the rubber for Skidmore, Mallory Allen and Shayne Cleeve combined for six innings, with Allen providing a steady 5.1 innings of relief. She worked around eight hits and four walks allowing only two runs.
Rochester 8, Skidmore 3
  • The Thoroughbreds staged a late rally in game two, scoring in each of the final three innings.
  • Elle Harrison drove in a run and scored once, while Rachel Monser and Bonham both went 2-for-4 to lead the offense.
  • Bonham added her second double of the day, and Mayne drove in a run as well.
  • Rochester (17-9, 9-1 Liberty League) jumped ahead early with a five-run second inning that included a two-run home run off the bat of Mulholland.
  • Molly Broccolo earned the win in the circle for the hosts, allowing two runs (one earned) across six strong innings while striking out five.
  • Campbell finished the day with four RBI and a pair of extra-base hits.
  • Despite the late push from Skidmore, the Yellowjackets' early firepower proved too much to overcome.
  • The Thoroughbreds got on the board on an RBI ground out from Harrison in the fifth and another from Mayne in the sixth.
  • Harrison scored on a wild pitch in the seventh.
  • Natalie Mayne started in the circle for the Thoroughbreds, while Cayla Schubmehl provided 4.1 innings of relief, allowing just two earned runs and striking out one.
