Skidmore splits Friday doubleheader at RIT as Nachamie drives in eight and homers twice

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Skidmore College softball earned a road split at RIT Friday afternoon, dropping a wild extra-inning opener 9-8 before roaring back for a dominant 12-2 win in game two.
  • Senior Jessica Nachamie hit two home runs in game one in back-to-back at bats and finished the afternoon with eight RBI.
  • First-year Sam Waters had two triples in each game and had six hits on the day.
  • Both teams end the day 8-18 overall and 2-6 in the Liberty League.
 
RIT 9, Skidmore 8 (9 innings)
  • The Thoroughbreds battled through a back-and-forth opener that went into extras.
  •  Jessica Nachamie led the offense with a pair of home runs and six RBIs, including a three-run home in the third and a two-run jack in the fifth. She had all six of Skidmore's RBI.
  • First-year Sam Waters racked up four hits — including two triples — while Rachel Monser added three hits of her own.
  • Waters and Elle Harrison recorded stolen bases.
  • Despite a 13-hit effort and multiple lead changes, Skidmore came up just short after RIT walked it off in the ninth.
  • The Tigers came back from two-run deficits in both the seventh and ninth innings.
  • The hosts raced out to a 3-0 lead over the first two innings before Nachamie's homers made it 5-3 Skidmore.
  • RIT got to within one in the sixth, but Waters tripled and scored on a Harrison single in the seventh to make it 6-4.
  • Kate Carlone singled to tie the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
  • In the ninth, Skidmore went back ahead on a Nachamie RBI single through the middle before another one came in on an error.
  • Bailey Kehl tied it again for the hosts in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run double before Maddy Cook walked it off with a double to left.

  • Skidmore wasted no time responding.
  • After plating two runs in the first inning on a passed ball and error, the Thoroughbreds erupted for six runs in the second.
  • Claire Stone started the rally with a single and stolen base.
  • Waters followed with her third triple of the day.
  • Then, Harrison singled and stole second with Waters scoring from third on the play.
  • Two batters later, Monser laced a run-scoring single and Sophia Finch followed it up with a two-run double.
  • Allen put the finishing touches on the giant inning with an RBI single as Skidmore scored all six of its runs in the frame with one out.
  • The Thoroughbreds wrapped their scoring with three in the third highlighted by a two-RBI Madison Bonham double and another in the fourth on a Nachamie single and eighth RBI of the afternoon.
  • Monser was 3-for-4 while Nachamie and Waters both had two hits. Harrison had a single, three walks, and three stolen bases.
  • Allen went the distance for the Thoroughbreds for the win, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out two, and walking none in a complete-game effort. It's her fifth win of the campaign.
