Skidmore rallies late in both ends of opening sweep over Carlow and Lasell

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Skidmore College softball team came from behind twice on Sunday to open with a pair of exciting wins at The Spring Games. The Thoroughbreds plated five runs in the top of the seventh on the way to an 8-4 win over Carlow in the opener before scoring two in the bottom of the sixth in game two to overcome a one-run deficit and win 8-7 in the nightcap.
  • Skidmore smacked 27 hits on the day, hitting .415 as a team, and reaching base at a .479 clip.
  • Jessica Nachamie was 4-for-8 on the day with an inside-the-park home run, a triple, a double, four RBI, and 10 total bases.
  • Natalie Mayne was 5-for-7 at the dish, while Elle Harrison was 5-for-9.
  • The sweep marked the second time since 2012 that the Thoroughbreds have won each of their first two games of a season.
Skidmore 8, Carlow 4
  • A back-and-forth opening four innings had Carlow ahead 4-3 after four.
  • The Thoroughbreds were down to their final two outs in the seventh when Mayne started the rally as the tying run with a single and stolen base. Then, an error in the outfield tied the game and set the stage for Sophia Finch to hit a go-ahead double.
  • Two batters later, Nate' Burley shot a single to center field for another run before Claire Stone doubled for another. Burley drove in two runs in the contest.
  • Cortney Somsky plated Skidmore's eighth run, and fifth of the inning, on a clean single through the middle. Four of the runs in the seventh were unearned.
  • Shayne Cleeve allowed just a single over 2.2 innings of relief for her first collegiate victory. She struck out four and did not issue a walk.
  • Harrison and Stone both had three hits.
  • Tatum Wiggs was 2-for-3 with a solo home run for Carlow.

Skidmore 8, Lasell 7
  • The Thoroughbreds scored each of the first five runs of the game over the first three innings to take early command.
  • Lasell climbed back with three in the fourth and four in the fifth to grab a 7-6 lead.
  • Emily Rondeau hit a two-RBI single for Lasell in the fifth giving the Lasers their first lead of the game.
  • Mayne, also the catalyst of the game-one rally, brought in the equalizer on a double in Skidmore's half of the sixth. Mallory Allen led off the inning with a two-bagger in the gap.
  • Then, Madison Bonham singled in Mayne from second on a single to center to give Skidmore the lead back.
  • Mayne was also the winning pitcher in relief. She stranded the tying run in scoring position after a one-out double with a fly out and a ground out to end it.
  • Skidmore scored three runs on just one hit to get things going after Cleeve, the starter, pitched a 1-2-3 first. The rally consisted of three walks and a hit by pitch surrounded by a Nachamie two-run single.
  • Nachamie came all the way around for an inside-the-parker with one out in the third when her line drive got by the right fielder. She had a near-identical triple later in the game.
  • Erin Gibbons joined the part with an RBI single for Skidmore's fifth run.
  • The first four Lasell hitter reached base on the way to three in the fourth before taking the lead with four runs on five hits in the fifth.
  • Shyanne Raccio was 3-for-4 for Lasell with the team's only extra-base hit.
UP NEXT
