SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Behind three RBI each from
Landon Schwartzman and
Sam Kornet, as well as six innings of one-run ball from
Chase Siegel, the Skidmore College baseball team defeated Bard College, 11-1, in seven innings on Friday afternoon at the David A. Castle Diamond.
- The win is Skidmore's fifth in a row as the Thoroughbreds are off to a 4-0 start. The Thoroughbreds have won three league games via the run rule.
- Sam Kornet hit a three-run home tun in the fourth. His sixth of the season make it 6-0. He was 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.
- Landon Schwartzman hit a bases-clearing, three-run double in the fifth to cap Skidmore's five-run inning. Schwartzman was 3-for-4.
- Quinn McDonald reached base four times. He was 3-for-4 with a walk and a double.
- Chase Siegel improved to 4-0 on the season with another strong start. He allowed one run on five hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked two.
- Ewen Donald extended his hit streak to 20 with a single in the third. He is now one shy of the program record set by Will Potter '19 in 2018.
- Charles Modlin worked a 1-2-3 top of the seventh to close it out.
- Skidmore (11-4-2) left five men on base over the first two innings, but finally cashed in with three in the third. Three singles loaded the bases with one out before a potential ground-ball double play turned into two runs thanks to a throwing error. Jack Riva was credited with an RBI on the play. Eddie Galvao hit a sacrifice fly one batter later to make it 3-0.
- Kornet's line drive shot in the fourth doubles Skidmore's lead to six.
- Skidmore scored all five of its runs in the fifth with two outs. Zachary Leiderman smoked a single through the middle to bring in a run before back-to-back walks to Kornet and Donald brought in another run leading to Schwartzman's double over the left fielder's head that cleared the abses.
- Bard (2-13-1, 0-3 Liberty) notched its only run in the sixth on a Mike Lunch two-out single through the middle.
- Skidmore has now defeated Bard five times in a row and had won nine out of the last 12 over the Raptors.
