Skidmore remains hot with sweep of Bard; Donald ties hit streak record

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team won two road games on Saturday at Bard to complete the three-game weekend sweep of the Raptors. The Thoroughbreds claimed the first game of the doubleheader, 6-2, before winning 11-1 in seven innings in game two.
  • Skidmore is off to a 6-0 start in the Liberty League and improves to 13-4-2 with its seventh win in a row.
  • Ewen Donald has hit safely in 21 consecutive games dating back to the end of the 2024 season. He is now tied with Will Potter '19 for the program record.
  • Bard is 2-15-1 and 0-6 in the Liberty League.
  • Eddie Galvao finished the day 4-for-8 with six RBI and two stolen bases.
  • Starters Grayden Harris and Quinn Hocom combined to allow just one run over 11 innings.
  • Skidmore outscored Bard 28-4 over the weekend.

Skidmore 6, Bard 2
  • The Thoroughbreds scored five runs in the fifth inning all with two outs to break a 1-1 tie. Donald doubled the opposite way to tie the hit streak record and bring in two runs.
  • Then, after an error extended the inning, Jack Riva walked with the bases loaded followed by a two-run Galvao double.
  • Bard scored its lone run and registered its only extra-base hit on Harris in the first for the game's first run. Xavier Webb singled and scored on a two-out double from Gavin Gonzalez.
  • Skidmore loaded the bases with no outs in the second and settled for one on a Nate Vandersea sacrifice fly.
  • Harris surrendered just the run on six hits over six strong innings to pick up his second win. He struck out three and walked one.
  • Ethan Barnett secured his second save of the campaign by throwing the final three innings. He surrendered a run on three straight singles in the eighth but stranded two runners on base.

Skidmore 11, Bard 1 (7 inn.)
  • Skidmore used the big inning again with three tallies in the first and a six-spot in the fifth with two more in the seventh to build a 10-run cushion.
  • Hocom moved to 3-0 on the year with five shutout innings for the Thoroughbreds. He struck out seven with a walk and four hits against.
  • Each of Skidmore's eight hits in the game were singles. The Thoroughbreds also walked nine times and got hit by two pitches.
  • The first three Skidmore hitters reached to start the game. After the first run scored on a fielder's choice, Galvao came through again with a two-out, two-run single to right.
  • Bard put its first runner in scoring position against Hocom in the third, but a strikeout left the runner at third. Hocom also left a base runner on third base in the fifth when he induced a ground ball that completed his outing.
  • The Thoroughbreds took advantage of six free passes in the fifth to plate five runs on only two hits (including a two-RBI Galvao single).
  • Sam Kornet had the other hit – a single to score a run and keep the bases loaded.
  • A double steal in the seventh for Skidmore followed by a wild pitch scored the 10th run. Quinn McDonald completed the scoring with a run-scoring single on a full-count pitch.
  • Peter Martin worked around a two-out walk in the seventh to keep the Raptors off the board and end the game via the run rule.
  • Skidmore "mercied" Bard twice in three games and has four run-rule victories in six league contests.
