Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Schwartzman walks off Rochester in senior day overtime thriller

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – On senior day, Lily Schwartzman capped off a picture-perfect game by scoring the golden goal, her seventh of the game, in overtime to help the Skidmore College women's lacrosse team pull off the hard-fought 11-10 victory over Rochester at Wachenheim Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds (5-4, 2-1 Liberty League) earned their second overtime victory of the season by dominating the shots battle via a staggering 43-24 margin on offense, while defensively forcing 22 turnovers from the Yellowjackets (3-4, 0-2 Liberty League) and limiting the road team to a subpar 13-of-20 on clears.

Following the game, the program honored the seven-member 2025 senior class of Grace Grbach, Jillian Lockwood, Erin McMorris, Camille Pontone, Lily Schwartzman, Emma Sellers and Elizabeth Walsh with senior day celebrations.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Rochester began the match with two early goals in the opening minutes of the first, the Thoroughbreds responded by stringing together five-consecutive goals to close out the first and through most of the second.
  • Schwartzman led the way with a hat trick during the stretch, while junior Julia Cafasso chipped in with the other two goals to give Skidmore the 5-2 lead at the 5:44 mark of the second quarter.
  • The Yellowjackets would cut into the lead with two quick goals to pull within one score, 5-4, with 4:09 remaining in the half.
  • Schwartzman closed out the second quarter with her fourth goal of the game with just 57 seconds remaining in the half. The senior would begin the third with her fifth goal at the 12:30 mark by capitalizing in a man-up situation to push the Thoroughbreds lead back up to three possessions at 7-4.
  • However, Rochester clawed back into the match with three-unanswered goals to tie the game at 7-7 apiece with 2:52 left in the third quarter.
  • Freshman Hillary Noble briefly stopped the Yellowjackets run with a solo score at the 2:10 mark to give Skidmore back the lead, but Rochester countered with a man-up score of their own in the closing seconds of the period to make it 8-8 heading into the final frame.
  • In the fourth, the Thoroughbreds once again retook the lead when junior Grace deBenedictis scored off the pass from sophomore Charlotte Taylor. But Rochester responded with back-to-back scores to retake the lead for the first time since the start of the game, 10-9, with 8:10 left in the game.
  • The road team's lead didn't last long, as Schwartzman once again found the back of the net with her sixth goal of the game to tie things up at 10-apiece with 7:14 remaining in regulation.
  • Both teams were unable to land the final blow in the closing minutes of the fourth, causing the game to be sent to overtime, where Schwartzman shut the door with the game-winning goal off the rebound of an initial shot attempt by Lockwood.
