Thoroughbreds clipped by Titans, 5-2

  • Illinois Wesleyan tallied 14 hits on the day as it led from start to finish.
  • The Titans tallied two in the top of the first on a two-out, two-strike single from Tyler Woltman.
  • Casey Swanson cleared the fence in right on a full-count offering in the third to give IWU a 3-0 lead.
  • The Thoroughbreds pulled to within one in the bottom of the fourth when Sam Kornet accounted for all of the Skidmore offense with a two-run blast over the left-center field fence.
  • The Titans got the lead right back in the fifth. After a leadoff single and successful sacrifice bunt, Ben Ford bounced a single through the right side to score the run from second.
  • Illinois Wesleyan added one more in the eighth but stopped right there as both the eighth and ninth innings ended at the plate. Ewen Donald tossed out a runner at the plate from the outfield to end the eighth. Then, catcher Trey Bourque scurried back on a potential wild pitch and tossed the ball to Alex Tavano covering to nail another Titan to end the ninth.

  • Jake Pullam pitched five innings for IWU. He allowed two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
  • Tavano pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings to finish it out for Skidmore. Carter Klein and Sam Dalsimer both surrendered one run over two innings of relief, and Cal Champeau gave up one run over an inning and a third.
