Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Skidmore tops Albertus Magnus 4-1 again for weekend sweep and fourth consecutive win

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team concluded its four game homestand unblemished as it defeated Albertus Magnus College, 4-1, on Saturday for the second day in a row.
  • Skidmore went 4-0 in its four-game homestand with sweeps of Southern Maine and Albertus Magnus.
  • The Thoroughbreds are 11-10 overall on the season and 9-7 (27 points) in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) for fifth place, behind third-place Salve Regina by two points and Norwich by one.
  • Albertus Magnus, a team that appeared on the "others receiving votes" section of the USCHO poll, is 11-9-1 and 8-7-1 for 23 points. The Falcons are in seventh place with four to play.
  • Four different players scored for Skidmore in front of the solid play of junior Joshua Seeley in goal, who stopped 34-of-35 shots on the night including five on five Falcon power plays.
  • The visitors, trying to bounce back from Friday night's defeat, came out hot in the first with nine out of the first 10 shots on goal over the first seven minutes of the contest.
  • Skidmore weathered the storm effectively and had a 3-0 lead by period's end.
  • Junior defenseman Stephen Perez, off a Ryan Waltman faceoff win, carried the puck into the corner and recovered from a fall to maintain possession and poke it in to give the Thoroughbreds the lead at 12:43. Kaeden Patrick had the other assist.
  • Then, Skidmore doubled its lead 49 seconds later when the forecheck from the second line, which scored two of the goals, left first-year Coleman Jenkins alone in the low slot. Cooper Rice, who had two assists, had the primary helper from behind the net as Mitchell Floccare picked up the other assist.
  • Ethan Heiderpriem scored Skidmore's third of the period with 2:01 remaining on a backhand shot off a rebound from the Jack Strauss original attempt. Theo Angelopoulos collected his first collegiate point on the play setting up the rush.
  • It was 4-0 Thoroughbreds with 5:33 left in the middle period when the second line struck again. Turning defense quickly into offense, Jenkins found Evan Brown behind the Falcon defense with a stretch pass to send him on a half-ice breakaway. Brown, a first-year, tied for the team lead scoring his ninth of the year.
  • Albertus Magnus spoiled the shutout 26 seconds later on the power play. Paden Hicks scored it from Tyler Ignazzitto and Sam Anderson.
  • Neither team scored in the third despite the Falcons going on a full two-minute 5-on-3 power play.
  • Albertus Magnus scored once in five power plays. Skidmore was 0-for-2.
  • The Falcons finished with a 35-28 shot advantage. Chace Hale turned aside 14 shots for the visitors over two periods in relief.
  • Seeley's win was his ninth of the season. He's 9-4 after surpassing the 300-save plateau during the game.
