SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College basketball teams will play their final two home games of the regular season this weekend at the Williamson Sports Center. The Thoroughbreds host St. Lawrence University on Friday (women 5:30, men 7:30). Then, Skidmore hosts Clarkson University on Saturday (women 2, men 4) for the return of the
Big Green Scream as well as Senior Day for both teams.
Â
The first 200 fans at each game on Saturday will receive a free t-shirt commemorating the Big Green Scream. There will also be in-game contests and prizes, including a grand prize gift card to the Skidmore Shop. The event will feature the return of Recycle Mania.
Â
General admission is free of charge for all fans and students.
Â
WOMEN
The Thoroughbreds are 12-11 overall and 9-7 in the Liberty League and have already clinched a playoff spot. Skidmore is looking to secure a first-round home playoff game.
David Bostick's squad is currently tied for third with two games left.
Â
Aforementioned St. Lawrence is one game behind Skidmore in a tie for fourth. The Thoroughbreds defeated the Saints 63-38 back in December in Canton. Clarkson is 5-11 in the league and has been eliminated from playoff contention.
Â
Skidmore will play in a postseason game Tuesday, Feb. 25 with an opponent and location to be determined.
Â
MEN
Joe Burke's squad is fresh off a tight 88-85 road victory at RIT last Saturday. The Thoroughbreds can very much play the role of spoiler this weekend, with both St. Lawrence (8-8) and Clarkson (7-9) pushing for a playoff spot.
Â
There are five teams between 7-9 and 9-7 in the league, so this weekend's action is critical to playoff seeding. Skidmore will not qualify for the tournament this season, but has won five league titles since 2010 and appeared in six NCAA Tournaments over that span.
