SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College hockey team skated to a 3-3 draw with Tufts in the championship game of the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Jumbos secured the tournament crown by edging the Thoroughbreds, 2-1, in the decisive shootout tiebreak.
- First-year defenseman Ashton Breyer pulled Skidmore even at three near the midpoint of the third period, wiring a high wrist shot into the net after his initial attempt rang off the post.
- It marked Skidmore's second shot off the iron in a span of ten seconds, as Brandon Spaulding struck the post moments earlier.
- Skidmore (3-3-2) opened the game with two first-period goals before Tufts (4-2-1) responded with the lone tally of the second period and a power-play strike just 14 seconds into the third. The Jumbos converted again on the man advantage at 6:39 of the third, briefly taking the lead before Breyer's equalizer three minutes later.
- Bryan Tang, one of Skidmore's two All-Tournament Team selections, opened the scoring at 5:13 by burying a rebound off a Bryce Terry shot created by a Tufts turnover.
- Cooper Rice doubled the Thoroughbreds' lead with 6:28 remaining in the opening period, scoring seconds after a Tufts penalty expired. Jacob Zwirecki and Dylan Shane assisted on another rebound finish.
- Shane was Skidmore's second representative on the All-Tournament Team.
- Brendan Fennell capitalized after extended Tufts pressure to cut the deficit to one with 9:32 left in the second. Zach Rizzo and Max Resnick provided the assists.
- Carrying a power play into the third, Trace Norwell tied the game for Tufts just seconds into the period. Ethan Ullrick and Fennell assisted on the play.
- Ullrick—who later netted the shootout winner—was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by goaltender Gustave Bylin and Norwell.
- Eli Pilosof intercepted a Skidmore clearing attempt behind the net and scored, giving Tufts a short-lived lead.
- Skidmore generated six of the seven shots in overtime, aided by a 4-on-3 power play, but could not find the deciding goal.
- Zwirecki blocked Tufts' lone overtime shot as the clock wound down.
- Shots ended 36-34 in favor of Skidmore. Tommy Aitken made 31 saves for the Thoroughbreds, while Bylin turned aside 33 shots for Tufts.
- Tufts held a 44-25 advantage in the faceoff circle.
- The Jumbos finished 2-for-3 on the power play; Skidmore was 0-for-3.
