SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior
Ryan Waltman scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period as the Skidmore College men's hockey team earned its first-ever State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory, defeating SUNY Morrisville, 3–2, on Saturday afternoon.
- Skidmore improves to 2–3–1 overall and 1–2–1 in SUNYAC play after finishing the home weekend unbeaten.
- Morrisville falls to 2–3–2 and 1–1–2 in the conference.
- Waltman created the game-winner by stripping a defenseman of the puck and finishing calmly on the forehand to put Skidmore up 3–2. The Thoroughbreds locked things down from there.
- Kyle Ozgun made 15 saves to earn his first collegiate win.
- Skidmore dominated the shot totals, finishing with a 59–17 advantage on goal with a whopping 99 total shot attempts.
- Morrisville goaltender Chad Lowe kept the Mustangs in it with 56 saves.
- Cooper Rice and Ryan Stratton scored Skidmore's other goals. Waltman, Mitchell Floccare, and Bryce Terry collected assists.
- Morrisville opened the scoring at 13:18 of the first period when Tanner Dietz trailed a 3-on-1 rush and fired a wrister home off a feed from Tyler Zembryzycki.
- Skidmore responded less than a minute later on the power play. Rice corralled a rebound off his skate and tucked it in to tie the game.
- Stratton gave Skidmore its first lead at 5:26 of the second period, cleaning up a loose puck at the top of the crease. Terry initiated the play by walking around a defender and sending the puck to the front of the net.
- The Mustangs pulled even just 40 seconds later on the power play, capitalizing on a failed clear as Dietz fired through traffic from the point for his second of the game.
- Morrisville pulled its goalie with 1:55 remaining after using its timeout on an offensive-zone draw. Despite sustained pressure, the Mustangs generated just one shot with the extra skater.
- All but two Skidmore skaters recorded at least one shot on goal, with Bryan Tang leading the charge with eight.
- Both teams finished 1-for-4 on the power play. Skidmore killed off a full two-minute 5-on-3 disadvantage in the middle of the second period.
- Skidmore's 59 shots on goal were its most in a game since firing 62 against Castleton on Dec. 10, 2021, in a 4–3 overtime win.
