Thoroughbreds advance to Invitational final with 4-1 win over Alvernia

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team buried three goals in the opening period and controlled play throughout in a 4-1 victory over Alvernia University to kick off the 2025 Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
  • Three Thoroughbreds netted their first-career goals to spark the offense against the Golden Wolves.
  • Bryan Tang, Bryce Terry, and Dylan Shane all recorded their first collegiate tallies.
  • Theo Angelopoulos also found the back of the net for Skidmore (3-3-1).
  • Joshua Seeley turned aside 28 shots to improve to 2-1 on the season.
  • Ryan Stratton, Nick Troutwine, Christian Day, Mitchell Floccare, Jacob Zwirecki, and Tang all picked up assists.
  • Tang opened the scoring just 1:41 into the contest, driving out of the corner and lifting a shot over the goalie's shoulder.
  • Angelopoulos doubled the lead with 7:42 left in the first, redirecting a Christian Day attempt toward the crease. Floccare also earned an assist on the rush.
  • Terry stretched the advantage to 3-0 with 1:33 remaining in the period, overpowering a defender at the top of the crease before pulling the puck to his forehand and tucking it into an open net.
  • After a scoreless second, Alvernia (5-4) broke through at 8:20 of the third when Leo Cabulis capitalized on his own rebound during a sustained push.
  • Shane sealed the win with 2:44 to play, ripping a wrist shot from the point through traffic after a Golden Wolves turnover.
  • Skidmore held a 44-29 edge in shots on goal and won 38-of-64 (.594) faceoffs.
  • Alvernia's Jeff Kreidler stopped 35 shots, while Jacob Stern added five saves in just over nine minutes of relief.
  • Both teams finished 0-for-1 on the power play. Skidmore generated six shots during its lone man-up opportunity in the second period, while Alvernia skated with a 6-on-4 advantage over the final minute.

Skidmore will play Tufts for the tournament title Sunday at 4 p.m. The Jumbos earned a 3-2 win over nationally fifth-ranked University of New England on Saturday evening. Alvernia will face UNE in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
