Thoroughbreds clinch home court with four-set win over Clarkson; top Oswego 3-1

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team will play a playoff game at home for the first time since 2012 after it clinched the four seed with a four-set victory (25-17, 25-17, 12-25, 25-14) over Clarkson on Saturday. Completing the tri-match, the Thoroughbreds also beat Oswego 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 25-14) to wrap up Senior Day.
  • Skidmore finished fourth in the Liberty League and will host fifth-seeded Vassar on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
  • It will mark Skidmore's first home postseason match since it hosted the league's final four as the top seed in 2012.
  • The Thoroughbreds improve to 14-9 and wrapped league play with a 5-3 mark.
  • Before the match against Oswego, Skidmore honored its four seniors in a special ceremony: Jazlin Chen, Angie Mozrall, Rudi Reyes, Maya Stolarz.

Match 1 - Skidmore 3, Clarkson 1
  • The Thoroughbreds raced out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of 25-17 wins before a dominant Clarkson (12-13, 3-5 Liberty League) third extended the match to the fourth, where Skidmore closed the door in the tight game with a strong finish to clinch the four-set win.
  • It is the second year in a row that Skidmore has defeated Clarkson after not having done so in a dozen years prior.
  • Stolarz led with 12 kills, two blocks, and three kills.
  • Chloe Heitman and Chen had nine kills apiece. Heitman added nine digs and two block assists, while Chen finished with four blocks (one solo).

  • Marlowe McIntyre racked up 16 digs and three aces.
  • Conley Burns led two Golden Knights in double figures with 16 kills and 13 digs. Jordyn Leader put down a dozen kills for the visitors.
  • Three Thoroughbreds (Heitman, Stolarz, Chen) led the Thoroughbreds in set one with four kills apiece as Skidmore hit .375 to take the opener.
  • Skidmore rattled off the first eight points of set two and never looked back to take the commanding 2-0 lead.
  • In the third, Clarkson flipped the script, scoring 12 out of the game's first 15 points.
  • Clarkson worked its way back to tie set four at 21 before a service error stopped the rally giving way to a Stolarz kill and Hoelperl ace for set point. Stolarz put it away two points later.
