GENEVA, N.Y. — The Skidmore College volleyball team split the first two sets before host William Smith closed strong to take a Liberty League decision, 3–1 (25–19, 19–25, 25–14, 25–11), Saturday afternoon at Bristol Gym.
- Senior Maya Stolarz led the Thoroughbreds with 11 kills on .360 hitting, while senior middle Jazlin Chen added eight kills and two blocks.
- Junior setter Catriona Hoelperl finished with 34 assists and three aces, and sophomore libero Marlowe McIntyre had a team-high 14 digs with five helpers.
- After seven early ties, William Smith used a burst fueled by Malya Sayre to break a then even set open and close it out. Stolarz and Katy O'Connell had answers at the net for Skidmore, but the Herons hit .452 in the opener to grab the lead.
- Skidmore's best offense of the day (.343) featured balanced swings from Stolarz, Chen and Chloe Heitman to even it up in the second. Athena Braverman sparked the crucial separation with two late service aces, and Stolarz/Chen sealed it with a stuff for 24–19 before a Heron error ended the frame. The Thoroughbreds scored seven out of the last eight points of the set when it was tied at 18.
- An 11–1 mid-set Heron run flipped a one-point William Smith lead into a 19–8 cushion in the third set. The hosts hit .444 in the stanza to regain control.
- William Smith rode a string of Kali Vanderhoof serves that produced three aces and two Hope Von Dohlen kills to race out to double digits and close the match.
- Skidmore posted 43 kills, six aces and five team blocks, hitting .177 for the match.
- William Smith finished with 54 kills, eight aces and seven blocks at .371.
- Sayre paced the Herons with 18 kills; Von Dohlen hit .722 (13–0–18), and Delainy Williams handed out 40 assists.
