Hot hitting fuels Thoroughbreds to sweep at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team hit .410 as a unit while sticking St. Lawrence at 17 in all three sets in a sweep on the road over the Saints on Friday evening.
  • Skidmore, now at 9-8 overall, improves to 2-2 in the Liberty League at the halfway point of its conference schedule.
  • St. Lawrence is 10-7 and 1-3.
  • First-year Chloe Heitman powered the Thoroughbreds. She finished with 12 kills on 23 swings (.391 percentage) with three aces, two blocks (one solo), and six digs.
  • Maya Stolarz and Natalie Pedersen both had nine kills. Pedersen added a solo block, while Stolarz had three digs, a block, and an assist.
  • Catriona Hoelperl finished with an even 30 assists with five kills and four digs.
  • Marlowe McIntyre tallied a team-high seven digs with four aces and four assists.
  • Araiza Acum-Santos led the Saints with eight kills and eight digs.
  • St. Lawrence jumped out to the early lead before Skidmore scored 7-of-8 to go up by two. Later, three-straight Heitman kills led the Thoroughbreds to the 20-point plateau before Skidmore closed on a 5-1 run with two Jazlin Chen kills and one each by Hoelperl and Pedersen.
  • In the second, the Thoroughbreds galloped away by tallying the final five points of the frame and seven out of the last eight. Skidmore's lead was two, 18-16, before the decisive run.
  • The teams traded runs in the third with Skidmore holding a tight lead until it rattled off 5-of-6 to take a 21-15 lead. Consecutive kills from Heitman, Hoelperl, and Chen clinched the sweep.
  • Skidmore had now defeated St. Lawrence in four consecutive seasons.
