Skidmore falls 5-2 to NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team lost 5-2 on Saturday afternoon on the road at New England College.
  • NEC completed the weekend sweep with 3-1 and 5-2 wins over the Thoroughbreds. The Pilgrims improve to 4-10-1 and 3-6-1 in the NEHC, while Skidmore is 7-10 and 5-7.
  • After Matthew Franzoi scored his first of the season on the power play to give Skidmore a 1-0 lead at 13:53 of the first period, NEC's David Novotny scored a natural hat trick in the second period to power the Pilgrims to a 3-1 lead.
  • Two of Novotny's goals were scored in the final three minutes of the period. Paul Waldhauser assisted on two of them. The first, at 2:13 of the period, was unassisted.
  • Coleman Jenkins and Mitchell Floccare assisted on Skidmore's go-ahead tally in the first.
  • Skidmore closed the gap to one on the power play again 2:50 into the third period. Zach Lindewirth scored it, his team-leading ninth. Ryan Waltman and Evan Brown assisted.
  • Brown has points in five games in a row.
  • Egor Osipik scored the first of his two goals just over three minutes later to regain the Pilgrims' two-goal cushion. He later scored on Skidmore's empty net.
  • Skidmore scored twice in six power plays.
  • NEC, thanks to an empty-net goal with 10 seconds left, was 1-for-2 with the man advantage.
  • Shots finished 41-26 Skidmore. Anthony Beaulieu turned aside 39 shots. Tommy Aitken made 21 saves for the Thoroughbreds.

  • Skidmore is off next week and will return to action at home Jan. 31-Feb. 1 against Southern Maine.
