Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team opened its four-game homestand with a 4-1 victory over Southern Maine on Friday evening.
  • The Thoroughbreds had goals from four different players, including the first-career tally from Oscar Worob, to snap their five-game slide.
  • Skidmore improves to 8-10 overall and 6-7 (18 points) in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC).
  • The Huskies dip to 5-12-1 and 2-10-1.
  • Skidmore scored two insurance markers in the third to separate what was up to that point a close game on the scoreboard, despite Skidmore's massive advantage in possession and chances.
  • Worob put Skidmore ahead on a rebound at 7:31 of the first. Jaden York and Matthew Franzoi assisted.
  • Southern Maine scored on a quick counter on the heels of heavy Skidmore pressure on the other end. Mathieu Sabourin converted on the short breakaway for USM's only goal.
  • It remained tied until Jacob Zwirecki scored the eventual game winner with under a minute left in the second. USM was unable to get the puck out of the zone, leaving Zwirecki all alone through the slot after getting a pass from his partner Freddie Ilias. Coleman Jenkins collected the other assist.
  • Kevin Urquhart was the beneficiary of another rebound goal to double Skidmore's lead at the 4:17 mark of the third. Danny Magnuson with the original shot got an assist, as did York, who had two assists, on the forecheck.
  • On a clean Ryan Waltman faceoff win with just under 6:30 remaining, Will Dow-Kenny held the puck in the zone and found Kaeden Patrick, who stepped in and scored short-side through a screen for the fourth and final Skidmore goal.
  • Outside a strong early portion of the second period from the visitors, the ice slanted for most of the night toward the Skidmore offensive zone.
  • The Thoroughbreds led 45-21 in shots and 38-16 in faceoffs. Ethan Heiderpriem won 83.3 percent of his draws. Waltman and Jenkins were both above 70 percent.
  • Joshua Seeley made 20 saves for Skidmore for his sixth win of the year.
  • Mason Palmer turned aside 41 shots to keep the visitors in it. He made an acrobatic, lunging glove save early in the third period on a Zach Lindewirth shot that appeared to be heading into an open net. Skidmore also hit a pair of posts.
  • Skidmore went 0-2 on the power play despite generating chances and seven shots on goal. USM did not have a shot in its only power play.
