Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Thoroughbreds play top-ranked Hobart tough again

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team battled for the second night in a row against top-ranked and undefeated Hobart College on Saturday. Despite Skidmore tying the game at two in the third period, the Statesmen answered with three goals on the way to a 5-3 victory.
  • Hobart improves its stock to 13-0 and 10-0 in the NEHC. The Statesmen's winning streak is now 27 with a 38-game unbeaten streak.
  • Skidmore is 7-8 and 5-4. The six goals over the weekend are the most Hobart has surrendered in five conference weekends thus far. The Statesmen entered the weekend having not given up three in a game all year.
  • Hobart struck first on the power play just past the midway point of the opening period. Freddie Ilias blocked two big shots from the Statesmen, but Chris Duclair found himself alone on the right wing and snuck one past Tommy Aitken. Defensemen Conor Lally and Bauer Morrissey assisted.
  • Just seconds after the first penalty that created a Skidmore 5-on-3 expired, Kaeden Patrick scored on a rebound off a Zach Lindewirth shot to tie the game. All five Skidmore players touched the puck on the play. Ryan Waltman earned the secondary assist.
  • Hobart regained the lead at 14:04 when a cluster at the Skidmore blue line left Brandon Sacchetti alone for a short breakaway.
  • The middle period, despite no goals, did not lack action as both teams had spurts of sustained offensive pressure. Shots in the second were eight apiece.
  • Lindewirth scored his third of the weekend at the 1:57 mark of the third period to tie the game at two. Danny Magnuson's shot from a tight angle was only partially stopped by Hobart goalie Mavrick Goyer. Lindewirth poked in the loose puck in the crease. Patrick assisted. Both Lindewirth and Patrick finished with a goal and an assist.
  • The visitors responded promptly with the winning goal 18 seconds later. Austin Mourar stepped in and fired from the blue line after a Sacchetti faceoff win and pass across the blue line from Matthew Perryman.
  • The Statesmen then scored a pair of insurance tallies within a minute of each other to make it 5-2 with 5:58 left. Tristan Fasig scored the fourth Hobart goal, while Luke Aquaro had the fifth.
  • Evan Brown connected from Cooper Rice and Coleman Jenkins for Skidmore in the final minute for the 5-3 final.
  • Skidmore, fueled by six power play chances, led in shots 28-24. The Thoroughbreds were 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
  • Hobart scored on its only shot on the power play. The Statesmen went 1-for-3.
