ITHACA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team defeated St. Lawrence University 5-2 in the First Round of the Liberty League Tournament on Friday morning.
- The Thoroughbreds, seeded fifth, won three quick singles matches to take a 4-2 lead. Each of the remaining three matches went to a third set. Louis Bourn defeated his opponent, Adam Heilbrounner, 6-1 in the third set at No. 1 to win the race to five. Bourn lost the first set, 6-3, before winning the second 6-4 to continue the match.
- Kyle Lundberg (5), Griffin Biernat, and Yuval Goodman all won for Skidmore within an hour to put the Thoroughbreds on the brink. The trio dropped just seven games in total, outscoring their three opponents 36-7.
- SLU was ahead 2-1 at the end of doubles. Skidmore got its win in the No. 2 match. Beirnat and Bourn won 8-3 over Moolman/Hamilton.
- The Thoroughbreds were trailing at No. 6 (5-1) and No. 2 (4-3) both in the third set when the match was clinched by Bourn.
- In the other first round match, #3 Vassar shut out #6 Ithaca, 5-0.
