Skidmore falls to #22 Rensselaer in Liberty League Semifinal

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team had its postseason run come to an end on Saturday morning with a 5-0 loss to nationally 22nd-ranked Rensselaer in a Liberty League semifinal match.
  • Skidmore ends its season 6-12 in dual matches after winning three in a row to reach the semifinals.
  • RPI is 16-1 and will play for its third straight championship on Sunday morning against either Vassar or Hobart.
  • The third doubles team of Yuval Goodman and Fletcher King were tied at four in a tiebreaker before their opponents (Burnham/McMillan) won three straight to win the match and earn the doubles sweep for the Engineers.
  • At No. 2, Griffin Biernat and Louis Bourn went down a pair of early breaks but were able to work it back to 7-5. McCandless/Okada put away the 13th game of the match for the 8-5 win.
  • Drover-Mattinen/Zhu won 8-1 at No. 1.
  • Bourn (6-3) and Kyle Lundberg (6-4) both won the first set in their respective singles matches at No. 1 and No. 5. Lundberg was serving for the straight-set win when the match was clinched.
  • Nika Mori forced a third set with a 7-5 win in the second at No. 2. He was up 2-1 early in his third set.
  • Tamsay Shah put Rensselaer up 4-0 with a win at No. 6 in just over an hour. The Engineers needed just one more win to clinch, and it came at No. 3 from Tsubasa Okada.
