Thoroughbreds hit their way out of early deficit to win at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Skidmore College baseball team scored eight unanswered runs after falling into an early hole and outscored host Williams 15-5 after the second inning to pick up a 16-12 non-league win over the Ephs on Tuesday afternoon.
  • After surrendering four runs in the first and three in the second to trail 7-1, Skidmore scored once each in the third and fourth inning before exploding for six in the fifth to take the lead.
  • Williams countered with one in the fifth and three in the sixth to briefly regain an 11-9 advantage.
  • The Thoroughbreds got the lead back right away before adding a pair of tallies in both the eighth and ninth. Williams plated one in the bottom of the ninth for the 16-12 final.
  • It is the most runs Skidmore has scored in a game since its second game of the year – a 17-1 win over St. Joseph's University Brooklyn in early March.
  • Skidmore slugged eight extra-base hits.
  • Sam Kornet and Nick Duryea both hit solo homers. Dureyea cut into Williams' lead in the fourth with a leadoff blast. Kornet tied the game at 11 with a two-out bomb in the seventh.
  • The Thoroughbreds also hit two triples and three doubles.
  • Trey Bourque doubled twice and tripled.
  • Zachary Leiderman hit the other Skidmore triple. He drove in three runs.
  • Jaden Torrado put an exclamation point on Skidmore's six-run fifth with a bases-loaded two-RBI single that cleared the bases thanks to an error in the outfield. Torrado had three RBI on the afternoon and stole a base.
  • Owen Roy scored four times. He was 2-for-5 with a walk and a stolen base.
  • Mac Cady scored three runs on a 1-for-4 showing with a pair of walks.
  • Skidmore scored four runs on sacrifice flies.
  • Aaron Kats got the win in relief. He pitched out of trouble in the sixth and retired each of the final seven batters he faced.
NEXT UP: Skidmore will travel to St. Lawrence and Clarkson this weekend to play four out of division Liberty League games.
