SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team outscored visiting RIT 7-5 in the second half, but the nationally third-ranked Tigers exploded for a 15-3 halftime lead for a 20-10 win over the Thoroughbreds on Saturday afternoon.
- RIT has scored at least 20 in three straight since losing 10-9 in overtime at RPI on March 23. The Tigers are 11-1 and 2-1 in the Liberty League.
- Skidmore is 9-3 and 1-2 in the league.
- Brian Gonsalves scored three times and had an assist to lead the way for Skidmore.
- Matthew Pinckney scored twice.
- Charlie McFadden had a goal and an assist.
- Kyle Goodwin, Charlie Kessler, Caleb Lawson, and David Muti had the other Skidmore goals. Tim Blue had an assist.
- Avery Stamps made nine saves in three and a half quarters.
- Marty McFadden posted a team high seven ground balls and caused three turnovers.
- Goodwin and JJ Jablonowski each also caused three turnovers. Goodwin had five ground balls, while Jablonowski had three. Goodwin also won three faceoffs.
- Clifford Gaston paced the visitors with three goals and two assists for five points.
- Luke Pilcher had three goals and an assist.
- Alex Zborowski made three saves in the first half for RIT. Kyle Burbank turned aside seven shots in relief.
- Skidmore trailed by just one, 2-1, through the first 5:21 of the first quarter. RIT closed the first period on a 6-1 run and scored three times in the final 72 seconds of the quarter to lead 8-2 after 15 minutes.
- RIT scored the first four tallies of the second period to put the finishing touches on a 10-1 run. The Tigers outscored the Thoroughbreds 7-1 in period two for a 15-3 lead at the break.
- Skidmore went on a 3-1 scoring run in the middle of the third quarter and then scored four out of the game's final six goals to out pace the guests 7-5 over the final 30 minutes.
- Total shots were 53-37 RIT. The Tigers also finished with a 52-40 edge in ground balls and went 24-8 in faceoffs.
- RIT went 2-for-7 on man-up chances. Skidmore was 2-for-4.
NEXT UP: Skidmore will made the short trip to Union on Wednesday, April 10 for a 5 p.m. meeting with the Garnet Chargers.
