SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. –
Jaden Torrado drove in three out of Skidmore's five runs and recorded two out of the team's four hits including his first home run of the year to lead the Skidmore College baseball team to a 5-1 non-league win over Russell Sage on Tuesday.
- The guests jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before Torrado led off the bottom half of the first inning with a solo blast over the fence in right-center field.
- An inning later, he singled in left-center with runners on the corners and two outs to give Skidmore the lead.
- Trey Bourque also homered the opposite way in the fifth inning stretching Skidmore's lead to 3-1. It was the junior's fourth long ball of the season to tie him with Sam Kornet for the team lead.
- The Thoroughbreds saw four different pitchers in the sixth and walked four times, including Torrado's base on balls with the bases loaded which made it 4-1. Skidmore walked eight times in the game.
- Andy Pelc hit a one-out RBI double to left in the seventh to score Ewen Donald, who got hit by a pitch and stole second.
- Donald reached base safely in three out of his four plate appearances and had a sacrifice bunt in the other. He was 0-for-0 with two walks, a hit by pitch, and a pair of runs scored.
- Torrado finished 2-for-4 for the Thoroughbreds.
- James Lubanski had two out of Russell Sage's four hits, including an RBI single in the first.
- Aaron Kats got the win as the starter in the predetermined rotation. He struck out one hitter over two innings of work.
- Cal Champeau, Peter Martin, Ethan Barnett, Grayden Harris, Ethan Caiazza, and Christian Giresi teamed up for seven shutout innings. Champeau struck out three hitters in two perfect innings of relief of Kats.
- The Skidmore pitching staff surrendered just four hits, all of them singles.
