Thoroughbreds dismantle Golden Knights 17-4 to clinch playoff spot

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team limited visiting Clarkson University to just one goal in the second half in a dominant 17-4 win on Saturday afternoon. The win clinched the weekend home sweep for the Thoroughbreds and assured the team a spot in the upcoming seven-team conference tournament.
  • Skidmore is 8-7 and is above .500 for the first time this season. At 5-3 in the Liberty League, the Thoroughbreds are tied with RPI with fourth, a half-game in front of Rochester, and one behind third-place Union with two to go. Skidmore has won four in a row.
  • Clarkson is 8-6 on the year and 3-5 in the Liberty League. The Golden Knights are currently one game ahead of RIT and St. Lawrence for the final playoff spot.
  • Skidmore neutralized a potent Clarkson offense and did not allow more than two goals in any quarter, including a blank fourth period for the guests.
  • Liv Kazanjian stopped 11 out of the 15 shots that she saw on frame (.733). She is currently the national leader with a .554 save percentage.
  • Skidmore had three players score three times apiece: Maeve McKinley, Lily Schwartzman, Jillian Lockwood.
  • There were three players (Maddy Marr, Gabriella Modesti, Elizabeth Walsh) who scored twice. Marr also had three assists to lead all players with five points.
  • Brooke LaVallee and Lily Hudner both scored once.
  • Ella Harris had a game high six draw controls and four ground balls.
  • Tessa Snyder caused three turnovers and tallied a pair of draw controls.
  • Lara Strunk caused two turnovers and scooped up three ground balls.
  • Phoebe Ross had a pair of assists. Julia Cafasso had one.
  • Clarkson's goals consisted of two each from Hailey Millington and Makenna Cassin.
  • The Golden Knights, due in large part to Kazanjian, came up empty in six free-position shots.
  • Shots on goal were 25-15 Skidmore and the Thoroughbreds finished with narrow leads in ground balls (20-17) and draw controls (12-11).
  • The win was Skidmore's first in four tries against Clarkson dating back to 2018.
  • Skidmore women's lacrosse used the day as its Alumni Appreciation Game.
NEXT UP: Skidmore will look to keep the streak going when it heads back to Rochester for a make-up game against RIT on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m.
