Skidmore opens Liberty League play with 16-9 win over Bard

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team scored in seven out of eight innings, including a nine-run third, to take down Bard 16-9 on a cold Friday afternoon at the Castle Diamond. It was the Liberty League opener for both teams.
  • Skidmore gets back to .500 at 6-6. Bard is 4-7.
  • The Thoroughbreds sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth, scoring nine runs on five hits. Trey Bourque got the party started with a one-out solo home run through the snowflakes over the left-center field fence. He had another RBI hit in the inning on a slow roller to third.
  • Nate Vandersea and Sam Kornet both had two-run singles in Skidmore's third. Eddie Galvao drove in a run on a hard single to left-center, Ewen Donald walked with the bases loaded, and Zachary Leiderman got plunked also with the bases loaded for the other runs.
  • The explosion gave Skidmore an 11-0 lead.
  • Bourque finished 2-for-4 with the two RBI and four runs scored. Kornet drove in four and was 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of walks.
  • Skidmore batters walked 13 times and got hit five other times.
  •  Jaden Torrado was 2-for-5, scored twice, and walked.
  • Shaw Pedemonti had two hits and scored in six at bats.
  • Owen Roy (1-for-1) and Ewen Donald (0-for-0) combined to walk five times with one HBP and score five runs.
  • Skidmore scored two more in the fourth to take a 13-0 lead.
  • Bard scored its only run against Skidmore starter Ameer Hasan in the fifth. It was unearned thanks to a two-out throwing error.
  • Hasan did not give up any hits until the fifth. He got his second win and improved his season ERA to 1.59 after allowing just two hits and one walk over six innings. He recorded seven strikeouts.
  • Skidmore runs in the fifth on a Nick Dureya bases-loaded walk and in the sixth on a Kornet booming double made it 15-1.
  • Bard extended the game with seven runs in the seventh. Michael Kurlan hit a two-out, two-run double in the inning for the Raptors as four walks and two Skidmore errors sparked the rally.
  • Both teams scored unearned runs in the eighth to complete the scoring.
  • Ethan Caiazza was strong over 2.1 innings of relief to close it out for the Thoroughbreds. He allowed two hits and the unearned run with no walks.
NEXT UP: The series picks up again on Sunday with a doubleheader at Bard slated to start at 12 p.m.
