Thoroughbreds suffer first defeat of 2024, 16-15, at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team used a 7-1 scoring run in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 15, but host Washington College scored with 46 seconds left and got a last-minute save to walk away with a 16-15 win on Sunday afternoon.
  • The loss is Skidmore's first of the season after winning the first eight in a row and nine straight dating back to the 2023 finale.
  • The Shoremen improve to 2-5.
  • Brian Gonsalves scored his third goal of the game for Skidmore with 3:48 remaining to tie it at 15.
  • The Thoroughbreds had two man-up chances down the stretch, but it was Washington College that scored the man-up goal with under a minute left to win it. Cam Carrigan scored the winner from Connor Garrison.
  • Skidmore fell behind early, trailing 6-2 early in the second quarter and 8-5 at the half.
  • The Thoroughbreds scored the first goal of the second act to cut it two before the Shoremen rolled off five unanswered for their biggest lead of the day at 13-6.
  • The late Skidmore push was part of a larger 9-2 run that squared things up.
  • Gonsalves finished with five points with two assists to go along with his three goals.
  • Caleb Lawson also scored three times.
  • Charlie Kessler and Jon Byrne both found the back of the next twice.
  • David Koffler and Jack Doherty both had one goal and one assist.
  • Nicolo Mazzocca, Matthew Pinckney, and Tim Blue had the other Skidmore tallies.
