Thoroughbreds win big on Senior Day, 21-1, over Bard

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team opened Liberty League play and captured a home weekend sweep with a 21-1 triumph over Bard on Saturday afternoon.
  • Prior to the game, Skidmore honored its six seniors: Lara Strunk, Maeve McKinley, Maddy Marr, Gabriella Modesti, Ella Harris, Liv Kazanjian.
  • The Thoroughbreds pounced with 11 unanswered goals in the first quarter to put the game into running time.
  • Skidmore added four more in the second quarter for a 15-0 halftime lead.
  • The Thoroughbreds outscored the Raptors 6-1 in the second half for the 21-1 final.
  • Skidmore won all three of its games during spring break and improves to 3-4.
  • Bard is 1-5 and off to an 0-2 start in the Liberty League.
  • Marr led the way with three goals and an assist.
  • Six different players (McKinley, Lily Hudner, Elizabeth Walsh, Grace Grbach, Julia Cafasso, Emma Caulfield) scored twice. Cafasso also had an assist.
  • Modesti scored one and had two assists.
  • Lily Schwartzman had one and one, and Hannah Nash, Charlotte Taylor, Camille Pontone, and Grace deBenedictis all scored.
  • Phoebe Ross had four assists.
  • Kazanjian made three saves to earn the win, her third straight. Isabelle Iannone made one save in 20 minutes of relief.
  • Lexi Blackburn turned aside eight shots for the visitors. The Bard goal was scored by Maggy Peyton on a free position late in the third quarter.
  • Shots were 31-7 Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds finished 11-for-12 clearing the ball and finished with a 20-4 edge in draw controls.
  • Cafasso had six draw controls.
NEXT UP: Skidmore will hit the road to Rochester next weekend for games against RIT and University of Rochester.
