Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Thoroughbreds ground #5 Soaring Eagles, 3-1

PINE VALLEY, N.Y.—The 13th ranked Skidmore College men's hockey team moved into second place with a 3-1 New England Hockey Conference win at #5 Elmira College Friday night. With one game to go in the regular season, Skidmore is 17-5-2 and 12-4-1 in NEHC play. The Soaring Eagles are 17-6-1 and 10-6-1.
  • The Thoroughbreds close out the season Saturday at 4 p.m. against defending national champion and NEHC leader Hobart. The Statesmen clinched first place with a 6-3 win over Vermont State Castleton Friday. Skidmore is in second place, three points in front of Norwich. The Thoroughbreds clinch second with one point against Hobart or a Norwich loss, tie, or overtime win in its final game against Southern Maine.
  • Jaden York scored the lone first period goal at 8:28 for a 1-0 Skidmore lead. Elmira tied it at 14:24 of the second when Stephan McDonald found the net from Cole Tucker and Tyler Schwindt.
  • Everett Wardle scored the game-winner on a comebacker at 12:58 of the third from Kaeden Patrick and Danny Magnuson. The power-play goal was his seventh of the season. The line combined again for an empty netter at 19:39 when Patrick scored from just inside the blue line from Wardle and Magnuson. It was his team-high 13th goal of the season.
  • Tate Brandon stopped 26 shots for his program record 17th of the season. He has 39 career wins, one shy of the team record of 40 set by Dave Katz '90.
  • The win avenges a Jan. 6 loss to Elmira that was also 3-1 with an empty net goal.
  • Skidmore's 17 wins are the most since 1996 when the team went 17-7-1.
