GENEVA, N.Y.—The playoff bound Skidmore College hockey team lost its final regular season game 5-1 to top ranked Hobart College Saturday evening. The 13th ranked Thoroughbreds are 17-6-2 overall and 12-5-1 in NEHC play. The defending national champion and top ranked Statesmen are 22-2-1 and 16-1-1.
  • The NEHC seedings will be announced Feb. 11. Skidmore finished tied with Norwich for second, but the Cadets own the tie breaker with a 1-0-1 regular season mark against the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore will host the sixth seed UMass Boston in a quarterfinal game on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. Complete details, including ticket information will be announced Monday.
  • Hobart didn't waste any time, scoring just 17 seconds into the game. Tanner Hartman found the net on a rebound from Matthieu Wurth and Arlem Buzoverya. Skidmore had chances, firing 17 shots on goal in the first period, including nine during a pair of power plays. The Thoroughbreds had a 17-10 shot advantage in the opening stanza, but Damon Beaver handled everything tossed at him to start the game.
  • The Statesmen took a 3-0 lead on second-period goals by Ignat Belov and Luke Aquaro. Skidmore got on the board with Cooper Rice's power-play goal at 19:12 of the second from Kaeden Patrick and Danny Magnuson. It was only the third power-play goal scored on Hobart in 25 games and 79 attempts.
  • Hobart iced the game with a pair of third period goals. Hartman scored 33 seconds in and Chris Duclair had an unassisted goal at 14:16.
