Thoroughbreds take #23 Cortland to OT

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team dropped an overtime heartbreak opener 11-10 to #23 SUNY Cortland Sunday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
  • Cortland took advantage of one of 13 combined cards called in the contest, scoring the winner as a Skidmore green card expired with 4:33 left in the first overtime.
  • Jillian Lockwood had three goals and an assist for the Thoroughbreds. Gabriella Modesti added two goals, an assist, and three caused turnovers and Maeve McKinley scored two goals and had two caused turnovers and five draws. Tessa Snyder and Julia Cafasso had three draws each.
  • Amy Hoeffner led the Red Dragons with three goals and four assists.
  • Skidmore opened the tight game with a 5-1 run in the third quarter to go up 9-5. Cortland returned the favor with a 5-1 run of its on to tie it 10-10 to force the overtime. Hoeffner had the winner with a rocket in front of the net from Rachel Rempe.
  • Cortland outshot Skidmore 30-23, while the Thoroughbreds had a 14-10 draw advantage.
  • Isabella Iannone had 11 saves for Skidmore.
  • NEXT UP: the Thoroughbreds head to Springfield on Feb. 28.
