Thoroughbreds edge Bates in OT

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Jon Bouvier scored the game-winner in the second overtime to keep the Skidmore Coillege men's lacrosse team unbeaten with an 11-10 win over Bates College Sunday afternoon at Wachenheim Field. The Thoroughbreds are 3-0, while the Bobcats are 1-1.
  • Dimitri Sfakiyanudis won the second OT faceoff for the Thoroughbreds and Skidmore used a timeout to set up the winning series. Skidmore retained possession after a Brian Gonsalves shot. Bouvier dodged a defender in front and went to his knees on the shot that beat Bates goalie Andrew Toland.
  • Nicolo Mazzocca led the Thoroughbreds with three goals. Charlie McFadden had two goals and an assist and Bouvier finished with two goals. Gonsalves had a goal and an assist. Jimmy Gibbons, Charlie Kessler, and Caleb Lawson had solo goals.
  • Kyle Goodwin had a big game on defense with six ground balls and an assist. Gonsalves added five ground balls. Sfakiyanudis went 13-12 on faceoffs with five ground balls. Jude Avelino Jr. recorded a team-high three caused turnovers.
  • Gray Doyle led Bates with three goals, two assists and five ground balls.
  • Skidmore outshot Bates 51-31. Avery Stamps had nine saves for the win.
  • The score was 8-8 with 8:05 to play in the fourth. The teams traded goals with Bates going up 9-8 and 10-9 and Skidmore tying it both times. McFadden evened it 9-9 with 4:41 to play and Mazzocca tied it 10-10 with 1:34 on the clock to force overtime.
  • The 3-0 start in the program's best since starting the 2010 season with three wins.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will host Oneonta on Feb. 28 at 4 p.m.
