Thoroughbreds close out home schedule against RIT

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— The Skidmore College men's basketball team dropped its final home game 71-66 to RIT in Liberty League play Saturday evening. The Thoroughbreds are 4-18 and 2-14 in Liberty League play. The Tigers move to 12-11 and 8-8. Skidmore will close out the season in the North Country against St. Lawrence on Feb. 16 and Clarkson on Feb. 17.
  • It was Senior Day for the Thoroughbreds. The team honored lone senior Ian Bentley in a pregame ceremony.
  • Jake Walsh led for Skidmore players in double figures with 16 points. Joey Skoric had his fourth double/double of the season with 12 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks. Hakeem Daphnis and Nick Padilla scored 11 each. Padilla added four assists.
  • RIT also had four players in double digits. Brock Bowen scored a game-high 19 points off 5-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Chase Dickens scored 14 and Josiah Turner had a double/double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Mark Osime added 11 off the bench.
  • The Tigers scored the game's first 14 points, before Nick Padilla scored on a layup with 13:53 to play in the first half. Down 18-4, Skidmore battled its way back into the game with a 10-2 run that cut it to 20-14 with 5:32 let in the half. Prince Shyllon started the run with a deep three and Walsh scored the next seven. RIT responded and took a 36-27 lead into the locker room.
  • Skidmore continued the comeback in the second half, using a 13-5 run to pull within one, 41-40. The Thoroughbreds tied it 48-48 on a Bentley jumper. The game continued to swing back and forth until the Tigers went up 63-52 with 7:52 to play. No quit in the Thoroughbreds, who responded again with a 7-0 spurt to cut it to 63-59. The game stayed a two-possession contest for the most part over the final seven minutes, RIT hung on for the win.
  • Skidmore had a 34-15 bench scoring advantage, including 23-4 in the first half.
  • Both teams struggled from the free throw line with RIT going 14-24 (58.3%) and Skidmore 7-14 (50.0).
