Thoroughbreds get back on track with 4-0 win at UMass Boston

BOSTON – In his first start in goal for the Thoroughbreds, sophomore goalie Tommy Aitken turned in a 38-save shutout and Evan Brown registered three assists to lead the Skidmore College men's hockey team to a 4-0 victory at UMass Boston on Saturday.
  • The win secures a split for the Thoroughbreds to close out the 2024 portion of the schedule. Skidmore goes into the break 6-5 overall and 5-3 in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) for 15 points, which is good for a tie for second. The win also snaps a three-game losing skid.
  • UMB is 4-6 and 3-4.
  • Four different players scored for the Thoroughbreds. Zach Lindewirth scored his team-leading fifth of the year on the power play at 11:19 of the first period after getting passes from Brown and Danny Magnuson. Lindewirth walked around a defenseman before beating the goalie over the glove.
  • Nick Troutwine doubled the Skidmore lead with his first collegiate goal with 1:49 remaining in the second period. Brown assisted again.
  • Cooper Rice scored on a tip from a Sam Saccone shot to make it 3-0 2:59 into the third period.
  • Coleman Jenkins completed the scoring at 7:18 after Brown forced a turnover in the corner, leaving Jenkins all alone in front.
  • Skidmore killed four UMass Boston power plays: one in each period, and two in the third. The last saw the Thoroughbred penalty kill did not surrender a shot while recording two itself.
  • Skidmore scored once in two power plays.
  • UMass Boston posted a 38-28 advantage in shots.
  • Skidmore earned a 35-25 margin in faceoff wins. Jenkins went 9-1.
