Thoroughbreds fall to Beacons in first of two in Boston

BOSTON – The Skidmore College men's hockey team dropped the first of two on the road at UMass Boston on Friday night, 6-3. The Beacons scored four special teams goals: two on the power play, and two shorthanded.
  • The Beacons (4-6-0, 3-4-0) struck first at 16:51 of the opening period, with Jakob Teply scoring on an even-strength effort assisted by Kevin Sadovski and Jack Mortson.
  • Less than a minute later, Skidmore (5-5-0, 4-3-0) responded with Cooper Rice's equalizer, capitalizing on feeds from Stephen Perez and Zach Lindewirth to close the first period tied 1-1.
  • In the second period, UMass Boston pulled ahead with two quick goals. Krivtsov buried an even-strength shot at 8:37, assisted by Jude Kurtas and Chris Merryman.
  • Minutes later, Zander Lizotte added a power-play tally to extend the Beacons' lead to 3-1.
  • Skidmore's Ethan Heidepriem narrowed the gap at 18:41, finishing a play set up by Kevin Urquhart and Sam Saccone to send the Thoroughbreds into the final frame trailing 3-2.
  • The hosts pulled away with three more in succession in the third period. Krivtsov notched his second goal of the game shorthanded and unassisted at 2:08, which also stood as the game-winner.
  • Kevin Sadovski added a power-play goal at 4:40, assisted by Mortson and Evan Googins, and Kolye Bankauskas capped the Beacons' offensive barrage with a shorthanded goal at 15:27.
  • Coleman Jenkins scored for Skidmore at with 2:02 remaining on assists from Jack Strauss and Danny Magnuson, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Beacons' lead.
  • Joshua Seeley made 25 saves for the Thoroughbreds. Tyler Bost stopped 41 shots for the Beacons in the game, including several key saves during Skidmore power plays.
  • UMass Boston converted on two of their four power-play opportunities and scored twice while shorthanded. Skidmore's power play struggled to find the back of the net, going 0-for-7 despite generating 12 shots.
