Thoroughbreds blow by St. Lawrence for first league win

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team swept St. Lawrence (25-15, 25-10, 25-19) for the third consecutive season with a decisive victory on Friday evening.
  • It was the first Liberty League win for Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds improve to 6-11 overall and 1-2 in the Liberty League.
  • St. Lawrence in 2-12 and 0-3.
  • Skidmore did not allow the visitors to get to 20 in each of the three sets, holding the Saints to a team attack percentage of .095.
  • The Thoroughbreds were in the .290s in both the first and second set, eventually finishing at .238 on the night.
  • Skidmore had a huge advantage at the service line, finishing with a 13-3 advantage in aces. Phoebe Yang led with six.
  • SLU also had 15 errors to Skidmore's six.
  • Angie Mozrall led the Thoroughbreds with eight kills and a .250 swing percentage.
  • Natalie Pedersen had seven kills, and Rudi Reyes and Jazlin Chen both had five. Reyes also had five digs, while Chen had a team high three blocks and three aces.
  • Catriona Hoelperl racked up 21 assists and nine digs.
  • Athena Braverman had nine digs and four assists.
  • Araiza Acum-Santos finished with 10 kills to lead the Saints. Vanessa Latam had 16 assists.
  • Skidmore scored eight unanswered points early in the first set and led by as many as 15 (20-5).
  • The Thoroughbreds held the guests in single figures in the second until it was 21-10.
  • The third set was by far the most competitive, featuring five ties and three lead changes. St. Lawrence had a 17-16 lead when Skidmore scored four in a row. After SLU got one back, Skidmore scored three more to make it 23-18. The Saints' ninth service error of the set got Skidmore to 24 before Reyes put it away in stop the match at 73 elapsed minutes.
