Thoroughbreds spread it around in midweek sweep of Castleton

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Nine players had at least one kill on Wednesday evening to lead the Skidmore College volleyball team to a non-league sweep (25-19, 25-10, 25-14) of visiting VTSU Castleton.
  • Of the nine with a kill, four finished with seven: Angie Mozrall, Natalie Pedersen, Maya Stolarz, Jazlin Chen.
  • Three of them (Chen, Pedersen, Stolarz) did not commit an attack error.
  • Skidmore hit .305 as a team with marks of .385 or better in both the second and third sets.
  • Skidmore has now won three matches in a row and four out of its last five. The Thoroughbreds are 9-12 on the campaign.
  • The Spartans dip below .500 with the loss and sit with a 9-10 record.
  • The Thoroughbreds had control of the service line posting a 10-2 advantage in aces. Isobel Streeper had three. As did Chen.
  • Chen finished with the seven kills on just nine attempts without an error for an inflated .778 percentage. She also had two blocks, one solo, and a pair of digs.
  • Catriona Hoelperl had 17 assists and 10 digs with one kill and one ace.
  • Athena Braverman also racked up 10 digs to go with a pair of assists.
  • Tiffany Flores had 13 assists.
  • Hailey Martinovich led all players in the match with 12 kills to pace Castleton. Alondra Rojas had 23 assists.
  • The first set had six ties and four lead changes, representing by far the most competitive set of the three. It was 20-18 when Skidmore popped three straight on a Pedersen kill and two Spartan errors.
  • After Castleton got the first point of the second set, Skidmore rolled off 12 unanswered on Madison Manning's serve. Manning had two aces during the run. The Spartans closed the gap to seven later on with four-straight points, but Skidmore conceded just two more the rest of the way to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
  • The third game was tight until the Thoroughbreds went on a 10-2 mid-set run to take a 22-11 lead on the way to the sweep.
