Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Quick start carries Bard past Skidmore, 69-50

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Bard College jumped out to a 24-4 withstood a Skidmore College comeback in a 69-50 Liberty League men's basketball win Friday night. The loss drops the Thoroughbreds to 4-11 overall and 2-7 in league play, while the Raptors move to 9-7 and 4-5.
  • Jake Walsh and Nick Padilla scored 11 points each to lead the Thoroughbreds. Aiden Roy added 10 points and Ian Bentley had five blocks.
  • Sean Wilcox poured in a game-high 18 points and had 10 rebounds for Bard.
  • Joey Skoric's dunk opened the game for the Thoroughbreds, but Bard scored the next nine points during a 24-2 run to go up 24-4 with 11:11 to play. Skidmore fought back using a 9-0 run to get to with 36-26 at the half.
  • The Thoroughbreds got to within six, 36-30 when Roy picked-up a steal and quick lay-up. That would be as close as it would get the rest of the way.
  • Skidmore had a 21-10 bench scoring advantage. Bard was only called for eight fouls in the game, sending the Thoroughbreds to the line just four times.
  • Coach Joe Burke: "I Told the guys after the game that I thought we took a step back tonight.  We had a bit of a rhythm with good wins against Vassar and RIT. We played hard but had some things go against us at Hobart which happens, but unfortunately we let it affect us going into tonight. Hard to start a game that way and win. I thought I had them ready but apparently that wasn't the case. Credit Bard, they played really well.  We have to continue to fight, we have won a lot games and championships in this league so nobody is feeling bad for us. We need to get off the mat and keep improving."
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore continues its road trip Saturday at Ithaca for a 4 p.m. game.
