SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team lost to visiting Vassar College on Saturday afternoon in straight sets (25-27, 25-19, 25-15). Both teams finished the opening weekend of Liberty League play 1-1.
- Vassar improves to 6-6 on the year. Following Skidmore's win over Union on Friday night, the Thoroughbreds are 7-6 with a weekend split.
- Catriona Hoelperl had a double-double for the Thoroughbreds with 12 digs and 10 assists. She also had a pair of kills.
- Carolyn Scott had eight kills and a block assist to lead Skidmore.
- Jazlin Chen tallied five kills to go along with three block assists and an ace.
- Chen and Ella Harris paced Skidmore with three blocks each.
- Holland Kaplan had 17 kills and a .355 hitting percentage to lead the way for the victorious Brewers.
- Vassar pounded its way to a .289 overall swing rate on the afternoon. Skidmore finished at -.011.
- Vassar forged its way through the first set after scoring seven unanswered points to get the lead and another 4-0 later to give some extra separation.
- Skidmore built another small lead in the early stages of the second set, but it played out much the same. Vassar went on a 6-1 run after Skidmore closed the deficit to one at 16-15.
- Skidmore never led in the third game and the lone tied score was 1-1.
NEXT UP: Skidmore will host Middlebury on Tuesday, Sept. 26 before a home quad match next weekend featuring a league contest against Clarkson.
