Saints start fast sinks Skidmore for 15-9 defeat

CANTON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team outpaced host St. Lawrence 9-6 over the final three quarters, including a 6-0 margin in the fourth quarter, but a 9-0 opening quarter gave St. Lawrence a 15-9 win on Saturday. St. Lawtrence improves to 5-5 and 3-2 in the Liberty League. After dropping both on the weekend road trip, Skidmore is 6-5 and 2-4.
 
  • Four different players scored twice for the Thoroughbreds: Gabriella Modesti, Maeve McKinley, Camille Pontone, and Julia Cafasso.
  • Lily Hudner scored the other goal and had one of Skidmore's two assists. Amelia Bassett had the other.
  • Phoebe Beshlian made seven saves in relief in goal for Skidmore.
  • For SLU, Rachel Burke led the way with four goals. Bella Hillman and Charlotte Powell scored three each. Powell also had an assist.
  • The Saints' 9-0 first quarter came as a result of six Skidmore turnovers and a 12-2 shot margin. The Thoroughbreds committed just five turnovers in the second half and went a perfect 4-for-4 on clears.
  • Skidmore scored the first two goals of the second period before SLU came back with the next six to make it 15-2.
  • The Thoroughbreds scored each of the final seven goals of the contest.
  • St. Lawrence turned the ball over just five times all game. Grace Grbach had Skidmore's lone caused turnover.
  • Draw controls were nearly even: 14-13 for SLU. Ella Harris had four to lead Skidmore.
  • Emma Sellers and Beshlian had two ground balls apiece.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will visit Rensselaer on Wednesday, April 12.
