Engineers edge Thoroughbreds, 15-12

TROY, N.Y.— The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team lost a tight 15-12 Liberty League road contest to Rensselaer Wednesday night. The Thoroughbreds are 6-6 and 2-5 Liberty League, while the Engineers move to 9-2 and 4-2.
  • Julia Cafasso led the Thoroughbreds with a career-high six goals. Jillian Lockwood and Lily Hudner scored two goals each. Maddy Marr and Elizabeth Walsh had single goals and Gabriella Modesti added two assists.
  • Emma Sellers had four ground balls, while Maeve McKinley had five draws and two caused turnovers.
  • RPI scored the game's first four goals. The Thoroughbreds scored four of the next six to cut it to 5-4 with 13:27 to play in the second quarter. Cafasso had two of the four tallies.
  • The Engineers went on another rally, scoring five of the next six, spanning into the third quarter for a 10-5 lead. Skidmore came back again, moving to within two, 12-10 on Cafasso's sixth goal with 9:48 to play in the fourth quarter. RPI rattled off three straight to take control 15-10 with 3:31 to play. Walsh and Ludner scored in the final minutes for the 15-12 final.
  • Skidmore outshot RPI 34-24. Phoebe Bashlian and Liv Kazanjian combined for six saves for the Thoroughbreds.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will host Westfield State on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
