Thoroughbreds stumble on the road

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team staged a second-half comeback that fell just short in a 15-11 Liberty League loss at Clarkson University. The loss leaves the Thoroughbreds at 6-4 overall and 2-3 in Liberty League play. The Knights are 7-5 and 2-3.

  • Gabriella Modesti scored a team-high five goals, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers to lead Skidmore. Lily Hudner had a career-high four goals on four shots after entering the game with three goals through the team's first nine games.
  • Maddy Marr and Jillian Lockwood accounted for the other two goals. Elizabeth Walsh secured a team-high three draws.
  • Liv Kazanjian had eight saves and six ground balls in net for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Clarkson scored the game's first three goals, before Modesti tallied a pair 26 seconds apart. The Knights responded with five straight goals over the rest of the first quarter and into the second for an 8-2 lead. Modesti broke the run with her third goal at 9:45 of the second. Clarkson added a pair for a 10-3 lead at the break.
  • Skidmore came out hard in the third quarter, scoring three straight on goals from Hudner, Modesti, and Marr to make it 10-6. The Knights connected for three straight of their own for a 13-6 lead after three.
  • The Thoroughbreds scored four of the first five goals in the fourth quarter, including a pair from Hudner to get it to 14-11, but that was a close as it would get.
