Panthers ride quick start to 10-5 win over Thoroughbreds

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Middlebury College scored five runs in the first inning on the way to a 10-5 win over Skidmore College Tuesday at Castle Diamond. The Thoroughbreds are 19-13, while the Panthers improve to 20-8.
  • Middlebury led 10-0 before Skidmore staged a late comeback. The Thoroughbreds scored one in the sixth, two in the seventh, one in the eighth, and one in the ninth to cut it to 10-5.
  • Skidmore had chances, but stranded 13 runners, including five in the last two innings.
  • Sam Kornet was 1-1 with a two-run homer in the seventh. It was his sixth of the season. Brendan O'Neil was 3-5 with an RBI. Max Mello and Jaden Torrado each doubled.
  • Ethan Caiazza and Anthony Petersen combined for three shutout innings of relief to finish the game for Skidmore.
  • NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds host Russell Sage on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the team's final non-conference game of the season.
