#3 RIT pulls away in second half for win over Skidmore

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Defending national champion RIT used a 12-3 second half advantage to break open a 9-5 halftime lead against Skidmore College in a 21-8 win over the Thoroughbreds in Liberty League men's lacrosse action Saturday. Skidmore is 9-6 overall and 2-4 in league play. The Tigers are 15-1 and 6-0.
  • Brian Gonsalves continued his scoring spree with four goals for Skidmore. He had two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
  • John Bouvier added two goals and two ground balls. Tim Blue and Jack Whalen had the other Skidmore goals.
  • Paul Heffernan, Charlie McFadden and Owen Quinn each had four ground balls.
  • Collin Kuester had another big game in net with 17 saves over the first 54:37. Avery Stamps had two saves over the final 5:23.
  • The Tigers scored six of the game's first seven goals for a 6-1 lead late in the first quarter. The Thoroughbreds fought back with four straight, including the last three of the first quarter, cutting the lead to 6-5. Gonsalves had two of the four, while Blue had a man-up goal and Bouvier closed the run with a goal at 12:54 of the second.
  • RIT responded with a run of its own, scoring seven straight over the end of the second and start of the third, to pull away 13-5. The Thoroughbreds cut into the lead with a three-goal run of their own, for a 13-8 deficit, but the Tigers closed out the game with eight straight.
NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds close out the regular season at home against Clarkson on April 29 at 1 p.m.
